![]() ![]() Like all of the drummers I have chosen to interview for Rhythm. ![]() "I'm so happy that he has found his home in The Darkness, and to see him develop as a musician in his own right and play such a big part in how that band writes and makes music is awesome. ![]() He plays for the song, and there's stuff he can do now that I can't - but he has the benefit of youth on his side! "Like his dad, Roger Taylor from Queen, Rufus has a real presence on the drums - you know he's there, and he's doing so much more than just keeping time. I remember sitting him on my drum riser when he was about 12 - when the Foo Fighters headlined Reading for the first time in 2002 - and it was like we'd come full circle when we headlined again in 2012 and were able to invite Rufus to join us on stage to play drums on 'Tie Your Mother Down', while I took over vocals. Rufus has always been like my little brother - even though he is much taller than me now! and I'm so proud that I've been able to play a part in his musical journey. Taylor Hawkins talks all things Foo and Medicine At Midnight with the Darkness's Rufus Taylor He later drummed on their fifth album Pinewood Smile and has also provided drums for their sixth album Easter Is Cancelled.Taylor Hawkins Takes Over Rhythm, March 2021 In May 2015, following the departure of Emily Dolan Davies, Taylor became the drummer for English rock band The Darkness, with guitarist Dan Hawkins confirming the news on a UK radio show. Taylor has joined the band on both of their world tours, and remains a mainstay of their live show. Some of his notable moments on the tour were his "drum battles" with his father, and taking over as lead drummer on Queen classics such as " Tie Your Mother Down", or on " A Kind of Magic" while his father left the kit to provide lead vocals. In 2011, Taylor would perform alongside his father, when he joined the Queen + Adam Lambert collaboration as a touring musician, providing drums and percussion for the stage show. He then toured with the Queen musical stage show, We Will Rock You, and worked again alongside Brian May as well as his father with Kerry Ellis on her album Anthems, contributing some drum tracks. ![]() In 2009, he played with famed Queen touring musician Spike Edney as part of his SAS (Spike's All-Stars) band. Taylor's first notable appearance was the 2008 Royal Variety Performance, where he played drums for Kerry Ellis and his father Roger Taylor's Queen partner Brian May to an audience including Charles, Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
